Thanks
to the universality of the underlying CTS technology,
measuring digital broadcasts is as straightforward as
it is in the analogue realm. In fact, the audio streams
obtained from a digital set-top-box have no difference
whatsoever with the ones present in analogue transmissions.
This makes the digital issue irrelevant in the UNITAM world.
In fact, in order to measure digital broadcasts, all
that is required is to generate the corresponding signature
stream from each channel to be measured. This requires
just to set up a “reference room” in which
a number of reference boxes are installed and generate the
required reference signatures, which are then simply included
in the database at scanning time.
Because each reference
stream is a valuable resource essential to measure the
associated channel, the output of each signature generator
must be properly monitored and backed up. UNITAM includes
several tools to accomplish this purpose reliably and
effectively, among which it’s worth mentioning
the advanced surveillance system that continuously performs
routine checks and calls for an intervention in the
event of any inconsistency or suspicious situation.
